Download
Voiceinator is free.
Hold one key, talk, and clean text shows up in any app. It runs on your Mac and works offline, so nothing you say gets uploaded.
Install it in one line
Paste this in Terminal. It downloads the app, checks it, and puts it in Applications.
curl -fsSL https://voiceinator.com/install.sh | bash
Want to know what it does first? Read the script. It's short.
- Free. No account, no card, no trial.
- Apple Silicon only. An M1 Mac or newer, on macOS 14 or later. Intel Macs can't run it.
- Works offline. Both speech models come inside the app. The download is about 4.4 GB.
Homebrew
Or use Homebrew
Voiceinator has its own tap. Homebrew clears the first-launch block for you.
brew install --cask boringstories-code/voiceinator/voiceinator
Update later with brew upgrade --cask voiceinator. The app also checks for updates on its own, once you say it can.
Disk image
Or download the DMG
Download Voiceinator-1.0.0.dmg. Voiceinator isn't signed with an Apple Developer ID, so macOS blocks the first open and says it can't verify the app. That's expected. Do this once.
- Drag Voiceinator into Applications. Do it before you open the app, not from the disk image.
- Double-click Voiceinator and dismiss the warning.
- Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security. Scroll down to the Voiceinator message and click Open Anyway. Confirm with your password or Touch ID.
- Grant three permissions. Microphone, Accessibility and Input Monitoring. After you grant the last two, quit and reopen Voiceinator.
Skip the warning
Run this once after dragging it into Applications, then open the app.
xattr -cr /Applications/Voiceinator.app
